Clive Owen For New James Marsh Movie
Clive Owen and Andrea Riseborough are to star in the new film by James Marsh, the Oscar-winning documentary maker of Man on Wire.
The versatile director is to tackle an IRA espionage thriller for his next feature film, having previously directed Gael García Bernal and Paul Dano in The King. The untitled project was previously known as Shadow Dancer (the title of the Tom Bradby novel it’s based on), but is currently inbetween titles, Marsh told NY Mag.
He confirmed the casting of Owen and Riseborough, the rising British actress who’s appeared in Made In Dagenham, Never Let Me Go and Brighton Rock. They replace Guy Pearce and Rebecca Hall, who were attached to the film last November. Also joining the cast are Queer as Folk and The Wire star Aidan Gillen, currently scaring us to death in superb horror Wake Wood, and X-Files legend Gillian Anderson.
Marsh revealed that the film will be similar to his stint on the Red Riding Trilogy (the 1980 part): “It’s a genre film, it’s a thriller. It’s very exciting to be doing something like that now, to have that kind of canvas to fill.”
Centered around the peace process in Northern Ireland in the Nineties, Riseborough will play a former IRA terrorist forced to turn informer, and Owen will play her MI5 handler. Filming will begin in Dublin this May.
Marsh’s next documentary Proejct Nim, about a chimpanzee taught to live as a human in the Seventies, will be released this year.
