Essex based Hollywood star Clive Owen is supporting his local cinema by attending a special screening of his new film, The International, there.
Owen, who has a home in Wrabness, has arranged for the exclusive screening followed by a question and answer session with him at the Electric Palace cinema in Harwich on Saturday, March 1.
The acclaimed actor, best known for his roles in The Bourne Identity, Sin City and Children of Men, became a patron of the cinema in 2006 and supported the volunteers who run it by raising funds for structural repairs which have now been carried out. Clive Owen and Naomi Watts take on large-scale corruption in the globetrotting thriller ‘The International,’ in theaters now, and the stars tell ET that it was quite an adventure filming in such far-flung locations as Istanbul, New York, Milan and Berlin — especially since Naomi just had a child three months before filming!
“I had just had a baby, so it was quite an adventure for me, traveling with my new baby everywhere,” Naomi tells ET of her first child with actor Liev Schreiber, Alexander. “[On night shoots] I had to express milk and send it back to the hotel and then feed him all day long, so it was tough — I didn’t get a lot of rest.”
And rest is a luxury Naomi still covets, having just delivered baby No. 2, Samuel Kai, a little over two months ago. “The sleep deprivation is unbelievable,” she says. “I mean, everybody tells you about it, and I was always someone who probably only slept six or seven hours a night anyway, but it’s just when it’s the broken sleep, that’s hard — [but] one little smile … sends you out the door with a whole lot of energy.” [Read more…] about Clive Owen & Naomi Watts Go ‘International’
Like the assassin knocking off loose ends to a conspiracy, “The International” operates with clinical precision. It takes its time and zeroes in with icy execution.
It’s what you want in a globe-trotting thriller — a taut, believable and mostly enthralling two hours, populated with solid acting. It just requires a little more patience than modern-day audiences are used to.
Clive Owen (“Sin City”) is a disgraced former Scotland Yard detective named Salinger who now works for INTERPOL trying to unravel the mystery of a bank dealing with seedy clients. He’s teamed up with a tough New York district attorney (Naomi Watts) to hunt down a hitman who has been killing people threatening to testify against the international bank. I can still remember the first time I saw Clive Owen in a movie. It was around 2000 and the film was called Croupier, and Owen starred as a struggling writer trying to write a soccer novel, and ends up turning back to his old life as a “croupier,” or dealer, in a casino in London. It was a British film with a modest budget that was about one of my favorite things: gambling. I’m a sucker for movies about gambling and con men. The plot was fairly standard stuff, but Owen really made this movie stand out as suave actor who bordered on looking bored sometimes, which isn’t meant to be a criticism of the guy. He’s just able to pull off that cool demeanor and really seem like he’s nonplussed by what’s going on around him. [Read more…] about GeekBomb: Clive Owen, International Man of Mystery
